With its vaulted ceilings, thick stone walls and Gothic decoration, the Parador de Plasencia is a destination in itself. If you choose it for your accommodation, you’ll feel like the Dominican friars, sleeping in what were formerly their cells and strolling around the chapterhouse. There is also a late-night bar in the convent's old cellar, which was built in the 15th century. It is the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing or work. The decoration, the candles and its unique setting will take you back to another era as you enjoy the best jazz music.
Plasencia is in a strategic location on the Silver Route. It is also the perfect starting point for visiting the Monastery of Yuste or the surrounding natural landscapes: the Jerte River Valley, Las Hurdes, the Sierra de Gata, the region of La Vera and the Monfragüe National Park.
You can also stroll through its narrow streets, discover the numerous stately homes and convents and visit the city wall, one of the most distinctive images of the city.
Next to it is the Medieval aqueduct, which was built in the 16th century, and the San Antón Park, which is perfect for a stroll.
The highlights of the historic quarter also include the palaces and stately homes (the Palace of the Marquis of Mirabel, the House of the Two Towers, the Municipal Palace and Doctor Trujillo’s House) and the convents and churches (Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Puerto, Convent of the Carmelites or the Hermitage of La Salud).
Another of Plasencia’s defining features is its natural surroundings.
The river Jerte is fully integrated into the city and has a pedestrian walkway.
You can also enjoy the natural environment in the heart of the city centre is the Parks Route: the Los Pinos bird park; La Coronación, where children can have fun, and the El Cachón and La Isla parks, which are next to the river Jerte.
