The Parador is surrounded by gardens where you can explore an archaeological collection of sarcophagi, baptismal fonts and a boar from the 5th century BCE. Its restaurant offers traditional Castilian delights such as beans from El Barco, pucherete teresiano (pork and vegetable stew), a veal cutlet, roast suckling pig or the delicious sweets called yemas de Santa Teresa, indelibly associated with Ávila. Additionally, once every year the Parador holds a Gastronomic Conference of the Judías del Barco beans.
You’ll love wandering through the streets of Ávila’s old quarter, strolling along the ramparts of the city walls and visiting the first Gothic cathedral in Spain, where you can admire the impressive altarpiece by Pedro Berruguete. The Sierra de Gredos National Park is an hour away and another good option for nature lovers.
If you have time, you could head to two other World Heritage Cities: Segovia (66 km) and Salamanca (100 km).
